i'm back

Well I'm back. I went to chicago for a bit with hubby and took a hyatus from posting on my blog. Not that anyone really reads this thing. We looked at a few houses and checked out a few area's that we would like to live in. I'm really pulled toward the Indiana border. Neat & clean. Business look full and well busy. The roads are nice, stores more to my liking and most importantly. There are NOT bars on all the windows and doors of homes and business and even more importantly there does not look like there are a bunch of gangs hanging around every where.

Chicago IL. You just don't impress me!!!! I'll live there if I have to!!! But my guess is I'll become a prisoner in my home. Even in the NICE areas they have bars on the home windows. Come on, I spend 300,000 for a house I want to FEEL safe and BE safe. Why do people insist in living in ghetto like conditions. And don't tell me they can't change it. They can pick up the garbage around their homes and neighbor hoods, they can mow their lawns, fix their doors hanging on one hinge. TAKE SOME PRIDE.

Security Blanket

Security Blanket

Do you remember when you were a toddler or one of your children has hung on to a favorite blanket, This we call a security blanket.They sleep with it,walk around holding it and maybe even take it on vacation. It gives them a secure feeling holding that baby blanket.

Joshua 1:9 Be strong and courageious: do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Remind me, God, that you are with me this moment, and fill the empty rooms of my fearfulness--You, who said: "I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

A very, very dear friend of mine has been coughing up blood. Her test revieled a nodule on her lung. She went for more test and they called back up, with not so good news. And she woke up at 1:30 this morning coughing up even more blood. This person is extremely dear to my heart, not only as a freind, but as an extended family memeber. She is my SIL's sister. Please pray for dear Mary, lift her up for healing. Does this disease ever end??? It seems that every time I turn around someone I love, someone I know is fighting or has died from one form or another of cancer. It seems to be an on going thing, to hear, get a report of someone who in the family or extended family has cancer. Or of a friend. Rich has an aunt in Joilet going through chemo & radiation treatment as we speak. It just at times seems so, so overwhelming.

Lord, please heal Mary if it is in your will. If not comfort her, comfort her family. Her children her siblings, her grandchildren. Give Mary & them the strength to face each day and each long night as it comes Lord. Mary is a child of yours, her faith is strong, keep it strong, keep her strong. I KNOW all things are possible through you Lord. I ask that your will be done. In the Lord name I pray. Amen.

What makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? What gives you the reason to keep toiling on?

For me it is a couple of things. My DH. He does so much for me, without complaint and without making me feel bad. His concern and feelings are truly genuine and I'm not sure there is a more caring, loving man then he is. Because of this when I'm just not sure the pain is worth it any more I remember how much he gives and how much he loves me and it makes feel good inside, it is nice to know that someone can love so openly and genuinly in this day and age. The second ,is my knowledge of Christ. (by no means do I mean second in my life.) The knowledge that someday, there is going to be a time and place where I will not be in pain and I will not be sick, that Christ has an abode for me that is so grand that It will be undescribeable, this gives me a warm feeling inside of me.

There are other things, but for today that is my two.

Lord, I thank you for all you do. Please heal my loved ones, comfort them and keep them safe. In your name I pray amen.

One of the things I do to help the environment. I reuse the plastic rings that are around the milk jugs and soda pop bottles. When I'm crocheting potholders or towel holders they work perfectly in place of the store bought rings. Some of the rings have a slight nob on the inside circle. I take a hot glue and run a bead of hot glue around this rim to even out the ridges.

With the bright eyes of faith the soul can see the pathway cleared, the ocean bridged, even the mountain removed--and the hand of God at work in it all.

Our heavenly father, we have so many people to lift up to you in prayer. My brother Ken who just had surgery. My husbands family who just lost a loved one. My oldest son who is having a hard time, a dear freind Mary, may you watch over her and heal her. Myself, the swelling in my left leg and the pain. Please remove the swelling and take the pain away. So many friends on Crochetville who have had a sucide in the family, another stricken with breast cancer. Lord you know all the needs please meet them. Thank you for all you do Lord, in your name I pray. AMEN!!!

Going green

Saturday afternoon I was looking through some swaps on Ravlery and they had this one swap that said going green swap. Now i'm thinking this is a great idea. Then I read the description of the swap and it lists 1 thing that you can swap used. Books. hmmm, thats not going green in my opinion.

Going green is taking old sheets that you can't use and tearing them into strips and crocheting purses, rugs, dish clothes. Make something out of nothing. Take an old sweater that no longer fits or just wasn't your color and making an awsome handbag, mittens or scarfs from it. Did you get a kinda cute wallet for christmas. But its not in your color or the size you need. Pass it on to someone who might be able to use it. That to me is a going green swap.

Now I'm not 100% go green. There are still convinces of garbage I'm just not willing to give up. I still drink my water, boughten out of the store and thats not going to change. Even with a water filter our water not only smells like sewer it taste pretty nasty as well. So I AM NOT GIVING UP MY BOTTLED WATER. Not to mention that in the last 2 months we've had 4 boil orders. I'm not going to make my own laundry soap or dish soap. I do try to use towels in place of paper towels, I rarely get store bags. (I have my wonderful, huge aldi ruseable bags and few walmart reusable bags.) And the disposabe bags I do have I'm saving up to cut and crochet with. They also get used as dogging poop bags when we are are in puplic.

I take the little plastic rings from the milk jugs, water jugs and bottles and use them in my rings for crocheting angels and such. Why go buy a plastic ring when these work as well. I have been know to buy a crocheted blanket from the thrift store and either pull out the stitches and remake something or take the item and "make it better" by adding a cute border or bobbles and such to it. I've taken gigantic huge jeans (the biggest I could find) cut the legs off & sewed the bottom shut they make awsome craft bags. (pockets for crochet hooks and scissors). And even grocery shopping bags. Then I take the legs and cut them in squares for grease rags or rags in general around the house. I've taken sweaters and cut them into strips and made scarfs out of them, use the sleeves as arm warmers. (In the summer I can't have sun hitting my arms, i blister in a short amount of time.) I always keep sleeves from an old sweater or shirt in my van and slip them on my arms when one or the other arms is going to be in window and in the sun.

I love old t-shirts as hair clothes. wash my hair and dry my hair with a t-shirt and then wrap it on my head while I put on face cream or such. It stays in place so nicely, t-shirts also make great hand towels in bathroom for hubbys to dry their not quiet so clean washed greasy hands. (and it doesn't ruin your pretty set). I re use large envelopes that I receive items in (I rarely by those big shipping envelopes.) I take the envelopes from my mail and cut them into squares and staple them for note pads. Remove the labels from med bottles (and boy do I have a lot of them.) I use them for pins, needles, safety pins, rubber bands. no-salt seasoning salt to keep in my purse.

I lived in one place where I had a row of old purses I no longer used, liked, what ever hanging on the wall in my bedroom. I kept misc stuff in them. (Hosery, scarfs, slippers.) In the bathroom I had a couple hanging for combs, hair dryer and curling iron. I save all the napkins you get going through the drive through and have a little holder on both the driver side and passenger side that they go in for those nose blows. I have an old purse hanging in the front seat of the van on the hand rail that I keeps necesseties in. (comb, lipstick, stain remover, glass cleaner and cloth, bandaids and aspirin a measuring tape, a note pad and couple of pins, eye drops.) No searching or hunting, no bulging glove box. Look in the purse. Always there, always handy. I also keep two hand towels drapped across the same holder. Ever gone through a drive through, taken a bite of food and had your shirt ruined. (I asked for a sandwhich, not a slop burger.) Hubby and I drape the towel across our chest and if something squirts out, the towels catches it. No more ruined shirts.

We buy those lights that last forever and easy to dispose of when they do go.

One of my favorite things I use is I took the plastic tooth brush holder that we buy every so often. Covered it in pretty tissue paper, laqured over it and I use it to keep a large portion of my crocheting hooks in. Easy to grab and throw in my purse and I don't have hooks that our running around the bottome of my purse. I'm hoping I do enough extra things here and there that it makes up for my water bottle usage and I even try to make up for that by, buying yarn made from recyled bottles. Now one of the stranges things I do, is ziploc bags. Once I use the ziploc bag I turn it inside out and throw it into a linen wash bag, when that gets full, I throw it and a shot of dish soap into the washer and wash them. When done. I take them out and laundry clip them to drip dry and then reuse them. Some go into the bathroom for keeping things handy, and i love to use them when packing. Its so much easier to find my undies in the suit case if they are folded into a ziplock bag. Same with bras and socks. But I have no qualms about reusing them in the kitchen.

So what do you do to help the environment? What items have you repurposed??? I love repurposing items. I really think I get this from my momma who always found a 2nd use for things.

Lord we have so much to be thankful for and so many we need to lift up in prayer. We know you are all powerful and can meet the needs of each and every individual that weighs heavely on my heart. Comfort, bless those that need it. Heal those that need healing Lord. Lord I thank you for watching over me. My fall could have been much worse then it was, but you protected me (once again) and I again am so thankful that you are a part of my life. Thank you for the dizzy spells being small ones and not large ones. Guide the doctors as they try to decipher what keeps causing these incidents and Lord bless my husband. He is truly a comfort and blessing to me. I truly, truly appreciate how much he puts himself out there for me.

Updates

Don't hurry God. The problems that we think may drown us today could be the stepping-stones to greater spiritual strength tomorrow.

Well I think I may be up and moving for good now. Yippee. First few days home from the hospitol all I wanted to do was sleep and I decided my body knew what was best so I slept, except for meal time and a couple hours up to check my emails.

The pain in my left leg has let up alot and the swelling is starting to mimalize, although I'm sure If I stay sitting up to long the swelling will begin again.

Thanks to a wonderful friend. (Bless you Marsha), I did not have to worry about cooking or eating out or worrying about my husband posioning me with his cooking. She one evening dropped off Spaghetti with garlic bread and salad and german chocolate cake. She brought so much over we got three good meals out of it. And it was YUMMMY for my TUMMY!!!

Hubby has been plugging away at his programming, must be tough to work from home and sit in your robe to do your job. He is getting to spoiled and won't know what to do when he has to go back to the office. Cyndiloo is in 7th heaven, she has two of her three favorite people at her beck and call and is really lapping it up.

In the crocheting world. I have about 6 comfortghan squares to get made in various colors and sizes for various people. One who's cousins son who took his life. So tragic, another who if fighting the battle of breast cancer and the blanket will comfort & warm her while she is going through her treatments. A couple more for stroke victims, so that they can recieve warmth and comfort as well. We had about a week where this need seemed to almost come to a stop. But it is back in full swing. Crocheting one or two little squares is nothing, when it gives comfort and blessing to someone who is need of it. I assure you had I had a comfortghan while in the hospitol I would have been cuddling up with it. Of course its one of those things you never think to ask for yourself or do for yourself.

I also still have my shawl to finish for my swap partner. I'm 6 rows into it. I may have made it larger then needed, but she will be able to wrap herself up in and keep the evening chill off of her arms. The design is a slow design and I won't be wipping this out anytime soon.

I think I have the idea's going for my other swap partner. Its all about the letter "A" this month. Crochet or hand make something using the letter "A". I've found a few little extra things that will be fun to add to her box when its time to send it out. Then I have a baby blanket to finish up, its 3/4 of the way done and will be so soft and cuddly. Then I need to return to sashas gift, I keep putting this one on the back burner. I'm not as happy with it as I thought I would be. The 4th block design has me stumped.

I'm back

Hello all if you missed me I'm back. I had a nasty fall over the weekend and had to spend a couple of days in the hospitol. I'm feeling somewhat better. The problem causing the fall (a dizzy spell and pain in my left leg) has not been figured out. The swelling and pain in my left leg and the pain is just tremendous. I'm in a please "don't touch" my calf stage. All the laying down in the world doesn't seem to eliminate the swelling and neither are the water pills. I'm taking way to much pain medication in my opinion for the pain and hope it doesn't increase or get worse. I want to do more then sleep all the time.

I may be a real hit and miss with my blog for a few days.

"Peaches & Cream" Yellow and blue wash clothes. For ME!! I was in desperate need of some new dish clothes. Bryan was so hard on mine, bleaching them and stuff. A couple are a little wonky. I was expermenting with a pattern and then lost my place and what I was doing. But for me, I don't care. They clean dishes and counters just the same. I often make dishclothes when I am practicing a new pattern, it is a great way to learn a stitch and make something useful out of the final project.

4-10" scrap baby granny's sewen together. I realized when I was looking at the picture that I missed the edging on one side. So I'll have to fix it, before donating it. This is a baby size blanket. I closed my eyes, reached into my bag of scrap balls and used what ever color I pulled out, some balls were scarp balls that had been tied together. Not more than a few inches to a few yards of yarn for each color. I then carreid those colors into the other 3 blocks unless I had none of that ball left. Then I substituted.

I've noticed in my last two posts with pictures in it, it never actually posts the pictures in the order it shows them in when I am typing out the things about the picture. This is very frustrating. This blog also does not let me do a cut and paste. So I guess I'll have to start typing in WP and then coping and pasting it over so it's easier to change out. This site still needs some major work.

The first pic is a PREMIE blanket with a matching hat, done in dbl stitch in soft green, cream, tan, with a very pretty edging. This is my very first set done for a PREMIE baby adn the hat was a real challenge. This set will be donated for one of my charites.

The next is of a baby blue blanket for a family member on my husbands side. They just had a baby boy.

In the next row is a VERY large Granny, done in a country blue and 2 balls of scarp varigated yarn that did not have a label on them. This will go to Colorado for someone out there. It almost fits a full size bed. I did this back in March or April and it kept my legs so nice and toasty while I was working on it.

Next is a set of "Peaches & Cream" dish clothes in Faded demin and red. These will be a gift for someone. I just love doing these, they are so much fun and handy and work so well in the kitchen or bathroom. Both as a dishcloth or face cloth.

The last row is two scarfs. One is for an adult and the other for a child. The child one will go to charity for sure and the adult I think to Colorado. Now should I put fringe on them??? The child one, I am out of yarn for it and it maybe a little short.

Comfortghan Coming together, more blocks received

The top pic is of all the squares I received as of today's date to go towards my comfortghan.____ The second pic is of a few squares I received from "grannytime" from PA over at the ville. She went above the call of duty on her batch. I was expecting 1 or 2 and look she sent me 5, Simply Marvelous. _____The thrid pic is squares sent in from Deeds in California also over at the ville. I love the hearts worked into the square. I could not pick a set of favorites out of any of these, Each one is so unique and seems to really tell something about the person who made them. Thank you. All of you. You've lightened my load on makeing and getting this blanket done in a timely fashion.

Our heavenly father, we thank you for the wonderful weekend you gave us with my dear husband. We pray that you bless him through this week, while he is gone and working. Keep him safe. There are so many needs out there Lord. Please meet them all. Heal the sick, feed the hungry, meet the emotional needs that need met, the financial needs that need met. In short Lord, do what you do best Lord. We know you are all powerful and all knowing. We know there is not a need that you can not meet if you so deem it. We thank you for all you do Lord. Bring those that do not know you Lord, who do not know your wonder of forgiveness, the openess of having such a friend as you on their side, Bring them to you Lord. Give them the peace and security that only YOUR LOVE can bring. In your name we pray amen.

Good morning all. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Ours was filled with lots of painting and painting and more painting. It seems that old dry paneling we are trying to cover up is thirsty. It is just soaking in the kilz primer and stain block we are using. Three coats later and still looks like the we've barely touched the wall. So back to town we go for more kilz. It will more then likely have to wait until this coming weekend to finish it. I am beginning to think it is the room that will never "be". Every time we turn around there is a problem with it. lol.
